The Sahara

All deserts are one tribe, from the beginning / of time, but Arabia, Syria, Gobi - / they're only ripples of the vast Sahara / wave that roared its satanic spite. / / The Red Sea heaves, and the Persian Gulf, / and Pamir stands thick with snow, / but Sahara's sand-floods / run strai...

Somaliland

I remember that night, that place, / the moon so low in the sky. / / And I remember how I could not look away / from its golden path. / / How light, there. And birds sing. / And flowers bloom above pools, / / And there on the moon no one hears the roaring of lions / filling ev...

Flowers never last long by my side...

Flowers never last long by my side, / Their beauty's a one-day illusion / Followed soon by their fatal conclusion, / Flowers never last long by my side. / / By my side even birds don't live long, / Shiver groaning in mournful, numb manners. / All I witness at dawn are their feathers, ...

Groves of palms and aloe-covered slopes...

Groves of palms and aloe-covered slopes. / Silver mat is water of a creek. / Skies are infinite and blue in their scopes. / Skies are golden with a glowing streak. / / What, my heart, is left of your aspiring? / Has the happiness belied your hymns? / Why so easy do you let admiring / ...

You shall recall me yet, and more than once...

You shall recall me yet, and more than once - / Recall my world, uncommon and exciting: / A clumsy world, fashioned of flame and songs, / But, unlike others, wholly undesigning. / / It could have been yours, too, but no. It had / Proven too little, or perhaps too vast. / My verse, it...
