The Choice

Выбор

He who builds the tower shall fall
Frightening will be his flight
And at the bottom of the well that is the world
He will curse his maddened mind

The destroyer will be crushed
Lying under the ruined walls
Abandoned by the all seeing God
Screaming, his pain he will curse

The one who fled into the dark caves
Or to the shores of a quiet stream
Will meet the terrifying gaze
Of a predator, its breath raising steam

You're not safe from a bloody fate
Which is destined for all on this earth
And uncomparable is the right
To be able to choose your own death.

Odysseus to Laërtes

One still within his lot of years, / O my fate, O sacred one! / I am no wolf, no murderer, / And I honor you, the faithful guardian. / / Your face has furrowed features but / Your mind’s not dull to the whirl of life. / You, Laërtes, father, I salute, / Ruminative in your...

The Turkistan General

Beneath vague voices and the low din, / Strangely as if through a wall, / Through the bright dancers in a line / One sees the towering old general. / / A welcoming voice, a direct look, / With eyebrows, grizzled and curved, / Of nothing in particular he spoke / And to us said no mor...
