Ledy jdou

Ледоход

Průzračnou jarní zelení
už ostrovy se ozdobily.
Však Něva hned se promění
a zamračí se každou chvíli.

Jdi na most, dolů pohlédni:
ledovou tříští kry se řítí,
zelené, jak jed na mědi,
z nich hadí sykot slyšíš zníti.

Tak zeměpisci divné sny
vědomí v polospánku tíží,
neznámých pevnin obrysy,
když v horečce se k němu blíží.

Tak vlhkem houby zavoní.
Ve sklepě cítíš dech ten vlahý
nad zakopanou mrtvolou,
kde v tajemné tmě lezou žáby.

Nemocnou řekou hukot jde.
Medvědům bílým smutno není
v zoologické zahradě.
Ti jedině jsou spokojení.

Už vědí; tohle vše je klam —
a vítězně po kleci chodí.
Sám ledový jde Oceán
a z vězení je vysvobodí.

His eyes are lightless underground lakes, / Abandoned castles of the ancient kings. / Marked with the sign of the eternal shame / Of that, the Other One, he never speaks. / The deepest wound, his mouth, dark and purple, / Made with a blade borne of the deadly poison; / And it is sad and ...
