The Eternal

Вечное

In a tunnel of locked days
where even the sky presses painfully
I can see centuries, I live in minutes,
but I wait for the Sabbath of Sabbaths:

The end of anxiety, the end of success, the end
to my soul's blind wandering...
Oh time when I too will open my eyes
and know, oh hurry!

I will have a new soul,
everything exciting will be in it.
I will bless the golden road
stretching from worm to sun.

And he who walked at my side
in thunder and in silence,
who frowned at my delight,
who smiled at my sin,

Who taught me peace, who taught me war,
taught me earth's ancient wisdom —
he will drop his staff, and turn,
and say, simply, "Here, we've arrived."
