Hala

Галла

As astuonias dienas is Harares vedziau
Karavana Cercero atslaitem
Ir bezdziones zilas tarp krumoksniu zudziau –
Ju kapai – sikomoru giraitej.

O devintaja nakti pamaciau: ten zemai
—Neuzmirsiu akimirksnio sito —
Tolimoj lygumoj ziburiuoja lauzai,
Tartum zvaigzdes raudonos susvite.

Ir tada eme lekti viena po kitos
Naktys sventos ir dienos be galo,
Tartum zerintys debesys zydrynes aukstos
Lygumoj neaprepiamoj Halos.

Ir kuomet as artejau kaskart vis arciau,
Viskas augo staiga akiai mano:
As kupranugarius maciau,
Kaip prie juru juos milzines gano.

Kaip sieksniniai halieciai, pridenge pecius
Odomis leopardu ir liutu,
Issijuose kapoja begunus strucius
Ant zirgu – karstakrauju galiunu.

Kaip globojamos vietos senoliu, pulkais
Geria virinta piena gyvates…
Ir kaip jauciai maurodami bega laukais,
Baltaveidzio lig siolei nemate.

Ir girdedavau kartais prie urvo angos
Bildant bugna ir daina dainuojant,
Ir atrodziau as sau kaip Guliveris koks
Milzinu salyje tolimojoj.

As maciau Seich Huseina, kilnias sventyklas
Paslaptingosios tropines Romos,
Ir lenkiaus pries mecete pries palmes zalias,
Ir stovejau pries pranasa romu.

Ten ant persisko kilimo sales tamsoj
Nesvarus storas negras sedejo,
Aukskaruotas, zieduotas kaip stabas koksai,
Tik jo akys kaip zvaigzdes spindejo.

As nusilenkiau jam, jis atsake sypsniiu,
Patapsnojo man meiliai per peti,
Pistoleta jam belgu daviau dovanu
Ir dar savo valdovo portreta.

Klausinejo manes vis, ar zino bent ka
Apie ji tolimuosiuose Rusuos…
Ligi pat vandenyno jo burtai siekia,
Jis dalykuos savuos taip ispruses.

Kada mulo miske niekaip tu nerandi
Ar pabego tau vergas brangiausias,
Jeigu bus dovana paaukota brangi
Seich Huseinui, vel viska atgausi.

Agamemnon

A queer and fearful question is tight, / Oppresses my soul and tosses: / Can one be alive if Atreus has died - / Has died on a bed of roses. / / All that we dreamed of and everywhere praised, / All our longing and fear - / Were fully reflected in those calm eyes, / As were in a glas...

From "Captains"

(Fragment) / / In far waters of Arctic and South / On the curves of the malachite ripples, / Among reefs of bright pearls and gray basalt, / Rustle sails of impetuous ships. / / The swift-winged, they are lead by the captains, / Who discover new waters and lands, / Who don’...

At the Feast

There's Prince Diego, falling in a love, / He dozed and he laid his head midst table's stuff, / He lost his goblet, cast from silver's milk, / And freed his jacket of a crimson silk. / / And he is seeing the transparent stream, / And on the stream - the boat white as steam, / In which...

The Choice

He, who builds the skyscraper, falls dawn, / It'll be awful, impetuous flight, / In the deep of a well, in the ground, / He will curse his unusual plight. / / A destroyer, of course, will be thrown, / Thrown under the falling blocks' rain / Left by God in the darkness, alone, / He w...

The Clever Demon

My old good friend, my faithful Demon, / Had sung the little song to me: / All night of hell the sailor sailed on, / But drowned by the morn in sea. / / Around him waves stood like domes, / They fell and loomed again above, / And before him, whiter than foam, / Was flying his unriva...

The Conquistador

Conquistador, set in the iron armor, / I gaily follow the outgoing star, / I go over precipices, harbors / And rest in joyful groves, so far. / / Oh, how wild and starless heaven's shelter! / The haze is growing, but, silent, I must wait. / Conquistador, in iron armor set, / I'll fi...
