Vana konkistadoor

Старый конквистадор

Eksles mägedes, mis võõrad talle,
Hall konkistadoor ja tee seal kaotas,
Taevavines kondor tiibu laotas,
Ähvardavalt rippus lumevalle.

Söömata hulk päevi ringi käinud,
Lopes hobune tal… Kalju peidus
Õdus elupaik ent talle leidus,
Kallist korust jätta ta ei täinud.

Laulis kuivand viigipuude keskel
Ta Kastiiliast, kus päikses viljad —
Mõtted taplustel ja armukestel,
Meeles arkebuusid ning mantiljad.

Karm ja uhke süda temas tuksus,
Polnud hirmu, vaenu vähimatki.
Saabus surm ning sõjamees ta kutsus
Heitma mängu täringuid, mis katki.
