Múdry diabol

Умный дьявол

Môj starý verný priateľ diabol
rozprával príbeh, takto znel:
Po celú noc muž morom tiahol,
a na svitaní ku dnu šiel.

Vôkol sa vlny ako valy
rúcali, potom rástli zas
a jeho lásku unášali
jak bielu penu či spleť rias.

Hlas ozval sa, keď morom tiahol:
«Ja nesklamem ťa, len mi ver…»
No vedz, tak vravel múdry diabol —
že na svitaní ku dnu šiel.

To a Poet

Let verse of yours be flexible, but strong, / Strong as a poplar under valley's cover, / Strong as the earth under a plough, long, / Strong as a girl, who never knew a lover. / / Reliably preserve severity at length, / Your verse need not be fluttering or booming, / Although the Muse ...

The Trees

I know: to the trees, but not to us, / Perfection of the life is given, whole. / And on the Earth - the sister of the stars - / We live in exile, while they do at home. / / In latest falls, in sad and empty fields, / The red-brass dawns and amber-clad sunrises / Teach to th...

Under Poet

Under poet's fingers, fast and thin, / Strings were fluttering with easy, gentle sound, / Strings were golden, as the bands, around / Wrists of glum and unrestricted Queen. / / Calls of passion made the air drunk, / And the summer lightning was in hurry... / Not in vain, ranged those ...

The Word

In the days when the God eternal / Was declining face to the new world, / By the Word they stopped the sun’s inferno, / And destroyed the towns by the Word. / / And an eagle was falling at the ground, / Stars were backing to the moon in fright, / If, as made from orange flames...

The Giraffe

Today I can see your expression is especially sad, / And your arms that are hugging your knees so frail and fine, / But listen: somewhere far off by the distant lake Chad / An exotic giraffe roams about, adorned and refined. / / An exquisite figure and a leisurely life are his boon /...

The Word

Long ago, when the world unfolded, / As Almighty God would drop His face, / With the word the burning sun was halted / And the cities would be laid to waste. / / And the eagle would be stopped from flying, / And the stars clung to the moon in fright, / If abruptly, like a scarle...
